The King of Glory Shall Come in, Petra

This is possibly my favorite Petra song! The keyboard work is amazing, the song very upbeat, and the vocals by John Schlitt very nice indeed.

If you have never heard it, be in for a treat. What a nice way to learn the Psalms!

Ficaram Nus, Burnier e Cartier, 1975

Everybody Dancing Now, Lisa M

I admit two things. First of all, I have very poor musical memory, although I am a musician. Second, I am no lover of hispanic popular music per se.

However, I remember watching a video of this song as I was flipping channels, back in a Saturday afternoon the early 90's, and although I never heard this song again, the ^vamo bailar^ part of the song stuck to my mind. Not that I found the singer all that beautiful or sexy (she is neither). I just got the song in my mind.

Never thought I would hear it again, but, youtube does some wonderful things.

The song is part in English, part in Spanish, by the way. Part rappish, part merengue. Or whatever it is.

Cala Boca Zebedeu, Sergio Sampaio

I want candy, Bow Ow Ow

New wave was fresh. A lot of interesting things came from that movement, especially videos in the MTV area. Who says a bald girl could not be sexy? And the name of the band. It was created by Malcolm McLaren, a producer best known for early rap. But I enjoyed the video and the song. There is supposed to be some double entendre, but I really did not care.

Gipsy Roadhog, Slade, Live 1977

I didn't quite get the fascination some rock artists had with bandits, outlaws etc in the 70s. This is a song about such a creature. Slade were not alone, even Paul McCartney wrote such a song, "Magneto and Titanium Man", Styx "Renegade", etc.

At any rate, this is from Whatever Happened to Slade, the 77 album in which the band tried to go back to its roots. The whole album has a "bad boy" feeling to it.

The song made it as a single.

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES, SLADE

Rock and roll in the 70s was a funny thing. Bands tweaked with different formats, reached success, then decided to change their ways, only to fall into oblivion. Such was the case of Slade, which first two albums contained even violin solos, and weird songs such as "Martha my Dear" and "Knocking Nails into my House".

Then they found Chas Chandler, and became a powerhouse band, very successful in 71 to 74.

The problem is that when reaching success, lots of bands tried to emulate the Beatles, which as of 1967, experimented with more elaborate and sophisticated songwriting and arrangements. It did not always work, and it did not work for Slade.

Slade in Flame might actually be Slade's best album. There is no misspelled anthems like "Cum on feel the noize" that brought the band success. I did not actually watch the film, but have two versions of the album, the American and British one.

This is a nice song from that album, including the use of a clavinet, also used in "This girl" in the same album (American version).

Then in 1977 they decided to reverse course, but in spite of recovering some of their public, by then punk rock had come, and Slades fate was sealed.

Noddy Holder definitely has one of the most peculiar voices in rock
